This is a challenging but rewarding three-week trek with excellent views; plenty of cultural contact and the greatest net vertical gain of all the popular routes. Starting in the subtropical paddy at about 500m, the trail ascends steadily to the 5,415 m Thorung La ( Thorung Pass ). A minimum of sixteen days is required, but a few extra days should be set aside for digressions, acclimatisation other contingencies. The trek is strenuous, and you will need boots, gloves and very warm clothes for the pass, and a good four season bag for a night spent at 4,400m.The full circuit is best done between mid-October and mid-December crossing the Thorung La is risky from January till March .You can also fly in or out of Manang, saving a week of walking. The usual trek starts from Beshishar and ends at Pokhara. |
